Rui Toscano was born in 1970 in Lisbon where he lives and works. Since the beginning of the nineties the work of Rui Toscano has been increasingly represented in exhibitions and artistic events. Paint it Light, (2002) in the Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art Gallery in Lisbon is one of the most recent one man shows of the artist. His work is in the MACS (Museu de Arte Contempoanea de Serralves, Oporto, 2002) and some of that is on show at the moment in the Caixaforum in Barcelona. Rui Toscano always gives a feeling of closeness to sensory impressions, mostly musical ones. He has set up and participated in shows and group initiatives with the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon (Brazil 2000), in Madrid, Voyager Experimental Design (2003), in London, Video Invitational (2003), In Berlin Selection MACS (2002), in Sao Paolo A New Geometry (2003) and ZDB go to Frisco, Sister Spaces San Francisco (2000).
Rui Toscano is a restless artist whose work uses video, photography, music, performance and installation. He is an integral part of HOUSELAB, a project to explore the creative possibilities of technology applied to live events, mixed media installations, audio visual experiences, ready made spaces, sound design, interactivity…..
